Day 01: 20/Dec/2016. Arrive Paro and drive to Thimphu (L/D)
Upon arrival in Paro, clear customs and immigration. Keep your copy of the visa clearance letter handy. Our representative will meet and greet you outside the terminal building. Transfer to Thimphu. Rest of the evening at leisure, stroll around the city in the evening. Overnight at hotel Jumolhari in Thimphu.
Drive from Paro to Thimphu: The distance of about 65-kms from Paro to Thimphu takes little more than 1 hour.
Thimphu: (2,300m) was a wooded farming valley until 1961, when it became Bhutan’s official capital city. Even today, it still only has a few streets and no traffic lights with population of about 120,000 people.
Day 02: 21/Dec. Thimphu (B/L/D)
Full day sightseeing in Thimphu. Visit Memorial Chorten, Zilukha Nunnery, Takin Sanctuary, Textile Museum, Folk Heritage Museum, Traditional School of arts & crafts and Tashicho Dzong. Upon available time, you will also visit Bhutanese Paper making factory and other sights. Overnight at hotel Jumolhari in Thimphu.
Memorial Chorten: This landmark of Thimphu was built in 1974 in the memory of third King, Jigme Dorji Wangchuk, who is popularly regarded as Father of Modern Bhutan. I
Zilukha Nunnery: It has been housed in Drubthob Goemba (monastery). The beautiful view of Tashicho Dzong can be seen from the nunnery.
Takin Sanctuary:Takin (Budorcas taxicolor) has been chosen as the national animal of Bhutan is based both on its uniqueness and its association with country’s history and mythology.
Tashichhodzong: This fortress serves as the office of the King, ministers and various government organisations.
Folk Heritage Museum: Heritage Museum is also a recent addition; housed in a traditional Bhutanese House displaying the living style of the Bhutanese family during earlier days.
Paper Factory: Traditional papers are made from the daphne plant, using simple methods.
Day 03: 22/Dec. Thimphu – Punakha/Wangdue (B/L/D)
Drive from Thimphu to Punakha: The drive from Thimphu (75Kms) takes about 3 hours. The road climbs from Thimphu to Dochula Pass (3050m) En-route stop at dochula Pass(3050m) where you can view the beautiful Himalayas on clear weather day. Overnight hotel Pema Karpo in Punakha/Wangdue.
Punakha Dzong: Located on the confluence of two rivers, the Pho and the Mochu. It was built in 1637 by Shubdrung Nawang Namgyal.
Punakha and Wangde:Punakha and Wangdue, are two separate districts, but located in one valley (½ hr drive apart) and they are at the lower elevation of about 1,250m with pleasant winters.
Day 04: 23/Dec. Punakha/Wangdue– Thimphu.
Morning, hike to Chimi Lhakhang: A Monastery and the Temple of fertility dedicated to Lama Drukpa Kuenley, a Buddhist saint popularly known as “the divine madman”.
Later have lunch and drive to Thimphu. Overnight at hotel Jumolhari in Thimphu.
Day 05: 24/Dec. Thimphu – Paro (B/L/D)
Morning, visit the Sabji Bazar, the weekend market and drive to Paro. After lunch, visit the Kichu Lhakhang, and the Paro Dzong. Overnight at Mandala Resort in Paro.
Kyichu Lhakhang: Tibetan King Songtsen Gompo in the 7th century miraculously built 108 temples inorder to subdued a demon along with Jorkhang in Lhasa..
Rinpung Dzong: Meaning “fortress of the heap of jewels”. Built in mid 17th century, it now serves as the administrative and judicial seat of Paro district and also houses the residence of monks.
Day 06: 25/dec. Paro -Hike to Tiger’s Nest Monastery(B/L/D)
After breakfast, drive to the starting point of the Hike, and begin the hike to Taktsang Monastery. Overnight at Mandala resort in Paro.
Hike to Taktsang: Taktsang monastery is located on the face of seemingly impossible sheer, vertical cliff, almost 900m above Paro valley. This takes little more then an hour. You can return back from the Cafeteria or hike further uphill for another hour or so to the Monastery.
Day 07: 26/Dec. Paro –Chelella -Paro. (B/L/D)
Morning, drive to Chelella Pass, the highest motor able pass in the adjoining area. On a clear weather day, you will be able to enjoy the beautiful views of the Himalayas. Overnight at Mandala resort in Paro.
Day 08: 27/Dec/2016. Paro – Depart -BKK (B)
Morning, transfer to the airport in time for your departure flight to onward destination, where your guide will bid you goodbye and wish you a safe journey.
